Super 8 media cross study

How does the industry promote film to audiences using?
·    Print media
- Broadcast media (TV/Radio/DVD)?
E-Media?

The industry promotes films to audiences in many different ways
E-media as it is presented through many social websites
such as; Facebook which has like groups and promotes itself by blogging constantly and is hit with likes and comments by the audiences commenting their views on the film
.http://www.facebook.com/pages/Super-8-Movie-Fans/115262985178323
Twitter regularly tweets itself and buzzes information within seconds which go all over fans communicate by blogging posts.
YouTube is another way Super 8 promotes the movie as fans make their own productions and fans update/visit the so site and post their views over it

the official of super8 fan page directs the targeted audience to a wide angled image of the front cover of the film enlarged. The official website of the movie is placed with film strips as we click on the scene we see sneak peeks of the film and making. The link also contains games where fans are able to interact and play against other fans
http://www.super8-movie.com/
Institutions do this so the audience are able to familiarize and recognize the low key lighted image the next time they view it. There is an application available on iPhone/ Android of Super 8 where the producers have made an app where us the audience can use the blue-ray camera on the phone to produce our own movie. The institutions provide us the camera on the phone which links to the super 8 movie as the young children in the film are creating a movie of their own for a competition. The blue-ray camera links to print media as well as broadcasting media. This application is a very powerful platform of e-media as it’s a free app and involves young fans making their own movie just like in the film the actors make a movie which is then disrupted but all the chaos around them
Super 8 have its own online movie games which interacts children to play the games and get all the other latest products such as toys, t-shirts, magazines; this links to merchandising.
Super 8 also has a fan pop website where fans can post their comments and communicate with other fans of Super 8

Broadcasting media
the trailer is one minute and thirty two seconds long includes many the enigma codes for audiences. As I was searching on YouTube I came across the cinema trailer which was shown with iron man 2 which also has the same genre as super 8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpzUCA5i6zY
the link takes us to the YouTube page and shows us the theatrical trailer of the movie which is shown at the cinema. However the trailer of Super 8 on TV is shorter as it is only 32 seconds with key scenes which leave the audience shocked as well as confused. The trailers on TV tend to be short and not take too long as they don’t want to give the storyline away.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9pZmxPzC1A
The TV spot is an interview with the cruise which joins Abram and talks about the movie Super and their experiences throughout the movie. He also recommends it to the audiences as it is a family film to watch.
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sh4PtZaNfg
below the interview fans have left their views by post of what they think of the movie before it was released and premiered in cinemas.
There is also a TV trailer of the Spot talk show with David Letterman a talk they had with one of the young actors Kyle Chandler on the show Joes father he talks about the journey of the film and how the comedy excites the movie and makes it more successful along with seriousness they have during the film as it is a movie mixture of the past.
Another way of broadcasting the movie is through movie awards on MTV there was a red carpet scene of the actors such as Ryan Lee explained his familiarity of the movie and mentioned how fans tweeted about the awards on MTV which are taking place. We see an interview taking place with the MTV media talking with the actors.

Print
A very important platform is print which is not really successful over the past few years but they are very useful as they help to spread the word of the film as print images are seen in many different places such as magazine which contained the review of the movie by media and fans http://superstarmagazine.com/film/review-super-8.html -> this site has reviews of fans point of view and talks about the success of the movie which Spielberg has achieved from this film as Spielberg does use young children which reflect to the audiences such as children. The movie is a escapism film where children see something from the past and mysterious experiences

Print image can be done through merchandising for example Super 8 has a comic which you can download online to read and even buy it.
http://www.super8comiccontest.com/
Posters of the film come across as print as we see posters in many different places for example buses, billboards, magazines, online posters, newspaper reviews etc..

The poster of super 8 movie is an example of print media. The poster is of two young children a boy and a girl holding hands and staring at the lights the enigma codes create suspense as the lighting is set out as dark and is a high key lighting as it seems realistic. This gives us a hint that the film is a mixture of a sci-fi movie as well as mystery. There is suspense created by looking at the poster as we don’t know who the actors are as we can’t see them. The shadows of the actors show that there is a over light which creates the effect of enigma codes.

Twilight Saga Breaking down Trailer analysis lighting
The trailer starts off with high-key lighting as it shows a beach place surrounded with greenery trees. The high-key lighting fades in to low key as the back lights produces strong contrast of the light as there is a wedding happening. The low key lighting continues as they are having a party the back lighting reflects on the couple as they are walking down. The scene then changes to a high key lighting with the use of top lighting which makes the couple look glamorize even though there is a problem happening as they are crying. This connotes that the story might be about a break up between the vampire and his wife. High-key lighting is on the road way and the car travelling gives it a realistic depth to the scene as it a dim scene. Although the shadow is created the contrast between light and dark is much less seen. The girl lying on the bed has just woken up backlight is used as it comes from behind her and shines her face as well as gives us a bright and light image.

Analyzing pictures effects lighting.

Picture number 1 is a High- key lighting of a women smoking the high-key creates a shadow as it has a side of darkness on the left and bright lighting on the right sides of smoke. This makes her look evil as she is staring right at the camera (direct mode of address). It can also be seen as mystical as the smoke is covering her hand and it’s fading her face. This is top lighting as the light is coming from over her head and reflections of light can be seen on her left cheek.
Picture 2; is a Low-key lighting as it produces a strong effect as its all dark from below. There is top lighting which makes the face look realistic. The women in the picture is staring above which also connotes mystery and suspense as we are unaware of what she is looking at
Picture 3; is of a man looking directly at the camera in a sort of anger which makes the picture look real.  The crown suggests that he is a prince or king. The lighting used is back lighting as a silhouette is created.
Picture 4: is of a man wearing a cape, he is looking up at the sky in anger. The shot is a under shot it makes the person look strong & were looking up at him as a role model

Picture 5 is of a women staring directly at the camera and smiling the lighting used is top lighting the picture uses high-key lighting as its seen more realistic and the shadow is creating the realistic part of the picture as the shadow is reflecting in the background
Picture 6 is of a couple kissing the lighting used is back lights as the source comes from behind the object and is reflecting on the couple. It is a high-key lighting as the sun if shining through the curtains and the shadow of the curtain is reflection on the couple is is also realistic.
Picture 7 is of four men standing together their shadow is reflecting on the ground the lighting used if top lighting as the light is shining from above and their shadow is on the floor. this is a low key lighting picture as the strong contrast of lighting creates a dramatic shadow of the dark picture.
Picture 8 is of a women face but only her right side she is looking towards something and is shocked this creates suspense. The under lighting gives a bigger effect to the shadow as the shadow looks bigger it is a low key picture as it has an dramatic affect.

Picture 9 is a under shot of a man folding his hands up and staring up with his eyes closed he seems to be praying. There is back lighting and it is a high-key picture
Picture 10 is of a villain coming down the stairs it seems to be a horror Halloween movie as the Villain has something in his hand and is in the basement. back lighting has been used as the doors shadow is reflecting on the right side.
picture 11 is of a couple the picture is a low key as the contrast is strong and seems to be real the shadow at the back is coming from under lighting.

Evaluation

Vina Talwar
Super 8 Evaluation
The director of Super 8 is JJ Spielberg. He has made many movies such as 102 Dalmations which was a great success. I have also heard of his movie called The adventure of Tin Tin which is soon to be relaeased on IMAX and 3D. Spielberg uses childrean in his movie which appeal and understand other childrean which they can relate to. I think Speilberg is a big success as using childrean as the main characters as it is something we don’t get much.  The main stars in the movie are the childrean ages 14-16. Joel Courtney who plays the main role in Super 8 and is mainly the hero as he sorts everything out and puts in back into order. Riley Griffiths is 14 years old and has been acting since he was yound and also appeared in Uthah  in Shakespreans Fevistival in his hometown. Ryan Lee is familiar as he is the voice on Jack in the USO’s. Gabrial Basso a new apperance.
Super 8 is a scince fiction movie set in 1979 in a small town called Ohio. A young boy called Joe who is mourning the recent death of his mother. He hangs out with his friends for comfort and a way of escapisim from relaity which recently hit him. His best friend Charles Is creating a Zombie movie on his camera for a conteset on Zombie movies with Joe and his other friends which are helping him to complete it. They were filming there scne at the train station when they witness a horrific accident which has taken place between a car and the train. Everything at the station is wrecked. However something mysterious and monsterous esacpes from on the cars. Joe and his friends flee from the Air Force. But strage things keep happening around the town. Joe and his friends flee from the air force but only him and his friends have the clue of what is really going to happen and why.
The soundtracks were really affective as the non digitic sounds were very flashy and at parts of the films it keeps you grabbed on and your eyes wide open as many parts of the movie is quiet shocking. Most of the soundtrack was quiet heroic which continously played through the movie when the friends were finding out information in the school of what was happening and why it was taking place. The sounds also created an massive impact atmosphere as it was loud but also came through different directions which made the armoshphere more humid and firghtening.
I think the characters were really good with the acting as it seemed so real and they were really into their roled. As Joe Lamb made parts of his mother and his moments very emotinal as he was upset the fact he lost his mother through an accident. Elle Faniting decribed her life really well through her emotions as she was broken up in to piece as her father doesn’t treat her well as he gives her orders and she is really scred she also expresses the unkown love of her mother which she didn’t recive. Riley grabs on to the fact he’s very determined to wining the contest and willing to do anything to make his Zombie movie he does this by still wanting to do his movie even after the terrible situation he goes through. Kyle Chandler known as Jackson Lamb was broken up into the pices with no support after he lost his wife but also showed dertemination in order to fix everything which was happening in his city.
In Super 8 the film starts equliribrium as they start of with the friends entering a contest and wanting to make a movie. Which then is disorderd as it is distrupted with the massive explosion of the train which affects all part of the places in the city. However it is then reslutioned as back to order as the hero (Joe Lamb) puts everything in order. The genre of this film is scince fiction which therefore doesn’t really fit in to my expectations as I don’t really like fiction film as they are mostly based on air forces, explosion, past and future. But I would recommend it for children around the ages of 10 and over as it is based around their ages and it also if a movie which helps them to escape and entertains them.

Review of year 12 video at the media award
Outside

The trailor starts of with a girl in a white shirt wrapped up tightly in her bed rolling around looking very tensed, scared and really stressed. the trailor has flashbacks of the past of what has happend to the uncomftable girl. The girl passes a few boys which call her out her name and annoy her this however connotes that something bad has taken place between her and the boys for example bullying or raped. the black and white flashbacks really gets the audience tensed and keeps them hanging on the edge of there chairs. Later on the scene changes as; the boys are all in a house watching t.v having a laugh while she stands outside the window just watching them. Suddenly everything starts going really fast as the girl dissapers and turns up behind reflecting from the mirror as he washes his face and gets up. The girl is seen as a ghost/spirit (as she is wearing a white dress which is flowing around) and is hanging around for her revenge as she suddenly occurs around the other boys and frightens them they way they scared her. Dark colors such as black and red has been used this refers back to the mis-en-scene as it makes it really threatening and violent.

www; they have edited it really and the horror genre seems to be more real as the edits such as dispering and frightening have worked really well, overall it was really good

Review of Year 13

i hate Love - the music video
I really enjoyed the music video as it was clear that a girl has been heartbroken and fed up and as they words are repetitive it makes it clear whats happening. The edits have been used really well as they have used lots of animation while she is dancing around and reflects her background as it shows flashes of her past

www; the shots used had many of long shots & medium.
