Super 8 media cross study

How does the industry promote film to audiences using?
·    Print media
- Broadcast media (TV/Radio/DVD)?
E-Media?

The industry promotes films to audiences in many different ways
E-media as it is presented through many social websites
such as; Facebook which has like groups and promotes itself by blogging constantly and is hit with likes and comments by the audiences commenting their views on the film
.http://www.facebook.com/pages/Super-8-Movie-Fans/115262985178323
Twitter regularly tweets itself and buzzes information within seconds which go all over fans communicate by blogging posts.
YouTube is another way Super 8 promotes the movie as fans make their own productions and fans update/visit the so site and post their views over it

the official of super8 fan page directs the targeted audience to a wide angled image of the front cover of the film enlarged. The official website of the movie is placed with film strips as we click on the scene we see sneak peeks of the film and making. The link also contains games where fans are able to interact and play against other fans

Institutions do this so the audience are able to familiarize and recognize the low key lighted image the next time they view it. There is an application available on iPhone/ Android of Super 8 where the producers have made an app where us the audience can use the blue-ray camera on the phone to produce our own movie. The institutions provide us the camera on the phone which links to the super 8 movie as the young children in the film are creating a movie of their own for a competition. The blue-ray camera links to print media as well as broadcasting media. This application is a very powerful platform of e-media as it’s a free app and involves young fans making their own movie just like in the film the actors make a movie which is then disrupted but all the chaos around them
Super 8 have its own online movie games which interacts children to play the games and get all the other latest products such as toys, t-shirts, magazines; this links to merchandising.
Super 8 also has a fan pop website where fans can post their comments and communicate with other fans of Super 8

Broadcasting media
the trailer is one minute and thirty two seconds long includes many the enigma codes for audiences. As I was searching on YouTube I came across the cinema trailer which was shown with iron man 2 which also has the same genre as super 8

the link takes us to the YouTube page and shows us the theatrical trailer of the movie which is shown at the cinema. However the trailer of Super 8 on TV is shorter as it is only 32 seconds with key scenes which leave the audience shocked as well as confused. The trailers on TV tend to be short and not take too long as they don’t want to give the storyline away.

The TV spot is an interview with the cruise which joins Abram and talks about the movie Super and their experiences throughout the movie. He also recommends it to the audiences as it is a family film to watch.

below the interview fans have left their views by post of what they think of the movie before it was released and premiered in cinemas.
There is also a TV trailer of the Spot talk show with David Letterman a talk they had with one of the young actors Kyle Chandler on the show Joes father he talks about the journey of the film and how the comedy excites the movie and makes it more successful along with seriousness they have during the film as it is a movie mixture of the past.
Another way of broadcasting the movie is through movie awards on MTV there was a red carpet scene of the actors such as Ryan Lee explained his familiarity of the movie and mentioned how fans tweeted about the awards on MTV which are taking place. We see an interview taking place with the MTV media talking with the actors.

Print
A very important platform is print which is not really successful over the past few years but they are very useful as they help to spread the word of the film as print images are seen in many different places such as magazine which contained the review of the movie by media and fans http://superstarmagazine.com/film/review-super-8.html -> this site has reviews of fans point of view and talks about the success of the movie which Spielberg has achieved from this film as Spielberg does use young children which reflect to the audiences such as children. The movie is a escapism film where children see something from the past and mysterious experiences

Print image can be done through merchandising for example Super 8 has a comic which you can download online to read and even buy it.

Posters of the film come across as print as we see posters in many different places for example buses, billboards, magazines, online posters, newspaper reviews etc..

The poster of super 8 movie is an example of print media. The poster is of two young children a boy and a girl holding hands and staring at the lights the enigma codes create suspense as the lighting is set out as dark and is a high key lighting as it seems realistic. This gives us a hint that the film is a mixture of a sci-fi movie as well as mystery. There is suspense created by looking at the poster as we don’t know who the actors are as we can’t see them. The shadows of the actors show that there is a over light which creates the effect of enigma codes.
